This month the NX Direct team had the pleasure of conducting a one-on-one interview with recently promoted Assistant Manager, Brandon Wilson. NX Direct is a marketing and sales firm headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, specializing in face to face marketing. Brandon Wilson has been with the team since August 14th, 2017, and his progression to assistant management has been nothing short of inspiring.
Born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, Wilson remembers being a slightly shy child, preferring to keep to himself. Wilson played sports all of his life and stood as a valuable member of almost every sports team offered through his high school. Upon high school graduation, Wilson would go on to play collegiate football at the University of Miami before transferring to Jacksonville State University. “Growing up as I child I was unfortunate,” says Wilson, “but sports gave me a go-to. Anytime things were not right at home, I picked up a ball and just went for it. It forced my mentality to be on the right page.” Wilson’s passion for sports remained the strongest part of his life, until the collegiate years. “I started understanding that sports wouldn’t be my whole life,” says Wilson, “so I started trying to find ways to get into something else.” In college, Wilson would go on to study everything from law to psychology before landing on sports economics. “I like numbers and I liked sports,” says Wilson, “but what I really loved about sports economics was the challenge, that was missing in psychology for me.”
Wilson began his career with NX Direct in August of 2017 and remembers his start more honestly than many. “I hated it at first,” says Wilson, “Growing up the way I did, everything came easily to me. This experience was so new, and every day I felt like I couldn’t do it.” Lucky for us, his mindset completely transformed within the first few months of joining the team. “Something in me told me that this was the job I should take. I talked down on it at first, but now I can’t stop talking it up. It’s just a great opportunity, a simple opportunity.”
As for the culture at NX Direct, Wilson felt right at home. “I like it a lot,” says Wilson, “I feel like everything played into the right place.”
Wilson’s time at NX Direct has not only brought him professional success but personal growth as well. “I’ve learned how to control what I’m doing,” says Wilson, “I didn’t have to cooperate with people growing up, here I have become a true people person. I am the one my team members want to come to when there is an issue.”
Not only can Wilson talk the talk, but his progression and success can be seen in black and white. “I was promoted to assistant management on the 12th,” says Wilson, “I still have a long way to go, but I’ve also come a long way, and I’ve truly learned how to lead from the front.” In terms of “leading from the front,” it’s not only a mindset for Wilson but a responsibility. As assistant manager, Wilson is responsible for teaching people the roots of the company and teaching them how to get to his role. “The promotion is huge for me,” says Wilson, “I understand the future it holds for me, and I am the first in my family to graduate and build a career like this.”
Of his goals, Wilson hopes to emulate the success of his leaders and become one of the biggest owners and consultants within the organization. It would be wise to remember the name Brandon Wilson, as we are pretty confident he is on his way to becoming a major player in the industry.
